Follow the Bios link to find biographies of the Beam Reach musicians. For our flyer, <click here>. We're also listed at http://myspace.com/beamreachband. Our musicOur music is about half original and half covers. Amongst the covers, we play carefully selected folk music from the 60's to today by Fred Neil, Bob Dylan, John Hartford, John Hiatt, Scott Boyer, Dave McKenzie, John Prine. See our Songs link for detailed song lists, lyrics, and biographies of these songwriters. See our MP3s link to listen to our sound. The song list is constantly changing. We continually add new material. We have CD recordings available and those are described on the CDs link. Where we play We are based in Minneapolis and play most of our gigs in the Twin Cities metro area, but we play occasionally in other Midwest towns. Follow the Gigs link to see where we are playing in the next month or so. Follow the Pictures link to find pictures of the band playing at various places. We play in coffeehouses, restaurants, beer gardens, and patios. We often play for dining situations. We are good at controlling the volume level to be appropriate for the needs of the room. We play indoors and outdoors venues. We play breakfast, dinner, and after-dinner situations. Our gear The band owns excellent PA and monitor equipment that is perfectly sized for coffeehouses, small clubs, restaurants, and small outdoor venues. While providing a full ensemble sound, the band is compact and portable enough to play small venues. AdvertisingEach month we send out an email to our mailing list of over 100 people. It is typically a short message listing the gigs for the upcoming month. In the email we usually include a menu item recommendation from one of the band members, and those recommendations vary each month (e.g. "Scott says try the chorizo pizza!"). Our friends know that we like good food, (see our band recipes link), and so a recommendation from the band can be counted on. The email always has a hotlink to the Gigs page on our web site so the people can go there immediately. On the gigs page we include additional information about the club or restaurant, such as storefront pictures, interior pictures, links to restaurant reviews, maps, and directions.. We have a good track record of drawing people into these venues using this combination of mailing list and web site. What does the name mean?A "beam
reach" is a nautical term referring to the point of sail where the wind
comes directly over the side (beam) of the sailboat, perpendicular to the
direction of the boat. It is the fastest point of sail. It is also a reciprocal
point of sail --- if you sail out to your destination on a beam reach, you can
turn around and sail directly home on the same wind, also on a beam reach, with
the wind coming over the other side of the boat. The things that have
brought you to where you are today are the same ones that will take you home. |
